Reading

Q. Do you like reading?

A. Yes, I like to read books because it enhances my knowledge. I read books related to many subjects, such as science, geography, etc.

Q. Do you like to read at home or in other places?

A. I like to read books at home because at home it is easy for me to concentrate, and also I feel comfortable. I sit in my room or the backyard while reading a book.

Q. In what places do you think it is difficult to read?

A. I think it is difficult to read in public places where there is a lot of noise or crowd. Because at such places, it is difficult to focus while reading a book.

Q. Do you like to read by yourself or with other people?

A. I like to read alone because it helps me to concentrate. With others, I feel disturbed and cannot read further.

Keeping in contact with people

Q. How do you usually contact your friends?

A. I contact my friends by calling or sending a message over WhatsApp. During some urgency, I always call them. Otherwise, I send them a message.

Q. Do you prefer to contact different people in different ways?

A. Yes, I contact my friends and relatives via phone calls or WhatsApp messages. However, I usually send emails if I need to contact somebody professionally.

Q. Do you find it easy to keep in contact with friends and family?

A. It is not easy to keep in touch with people because of a hectic schedule. However, I try to find some free time during weekends to contact my near and dear ones.

Q. In your country, did people in the past keep in contact in the same ways as they do today?

A. Technology has changed everything, and communication ways have also changed. Earlier, people send letters to each other. However, now they contact via phone calls or messages.

Hats

Q. Do you like to wear hats?

A. Honestly, I do not like to wear hats. However, I wear a baseball hat while playing outdoor games. Moreover, to protect myself from direct sunlight, I always prefer an umbrella.

Q. What kinds of hats do you have?

A. As I do not like hats, I do not have many hats at my home. I only have one hat, which is a baseball hat. I wear this hat while playing outdoor games.

Q. Is wearing hats popular in your country?

A. In my country, hats are not much popular among people. Children like to wear hats occasionally or during an event such as sports day at school, and adults prefer to carry an umbrella with them.

Life

Q. What do you do in your free time?

A. I like to stay at home and watch movies during my free time. Sometimes, I also like to try a new recipe from some cookery shows or YouTube.

Q. Do you have a busy social life?

A. Yes, being an extrovert person, I have many friends. They always accompany me while going out, and we also meet for lunch or dinner outings. Moreover, I also get a lot of invitations to attend different ceremonies.

Q. Do you lead an active life?

A. Yes, I am a health-conscious person, and I regularly do physical activities like brisk walking, cardio, and strength exercises.

Q. Has your life changed much in the last year?

A. I got my first job offer letter last year, and my life changed a lot. I got a job as a teacher in a local school in my area.

Q. Are you good at art?

A. I like to do art in my leisure time. However, I am not too good at art. I always try to improve myself in art.

Q. Did you learn art at school when you were a child?

A. Yes, there was a separate time allocated for art, and a teacher taught us how to draw various things during that time.

Q. Have you ever been to an art gallery?

A. Unfortunately, I did not get an opportunity to visit an art gallery till now. But I think I will get a chance to view an art gallery as my friend is organizing an art show soon.

Q. Do you think children can benefit from going to art galleries?

A. Yes, visiting art galleries will increase creativity and imagination in children. Moreover, if art is based on tradition or culture, children will get connected to their roots.

Health

Q. Is it important to you to eat healthy food?

A. Yes, eating healthy food is essential to stay fit. That is why I always prefer to eat home-cooked and fresh meals to keep myself healthy and fit.

Q. If you catch a cold, what do you do to help you feel better?

A. I always do some home remedies like taking steam and sipping hot tea. Along with these, I prefer to eat fruits and consume a lot of water for fast recovery.

Q. Do you pay attention to public information about health?

A. Definitely, such type of information is for our betterment, and I always follow instructions given in the information to remain safe and protected.

Q. What could you do to have a healthier lifestyle?

A. For a healthier lifestyle, I eat home-cooked food and avoid processed and fast food. Also, I do walk for half an hour daily to maintain my weight.

Place

Q. What place do you most like to visit?

A. I like to visit a local library, as this is the only place where I find a tranquil environment to study. Being a student, I always want a peaceful place to concentrate on my studies.

Q. How often do you visit this place?

A. I visit this place every day as I have assignments to do and to complete those assignments; I need to spend at least two hours daily on my studies. So I visit this place every day.

Q. Why do you like it so much?

A. I like this place as there is a pin-drop silence in the library, and I always want a silent place to concentrate on my studies. It is the reason I like this place very much.

Q. Is it popular with many other people?

A. Yes, it is popular among my friends and classmates as they also want a peaceful place to study and complete their assignments.

Q. Has it changed very much since you first went there?

A. Definitely, earlier there were not any modern facilities such as internet, computer screens or air conditioners. However, now it is equipped with all these facilities. Moreover, there is a cafeteria on the top floor of the library. One can have a cup of tea or coffee over there.

Sharing

Q. Did you share anything with others recently?

A. Recently, I shared my bike with one of my friends. His bike got punctured, and it was his exam day. He immediately called me for help, and I gave him my bike so he could reach on time for his exam.

Q. Did your parents teach you to share with others when you were a child?

A. Yes, my parents taught me to share my notebooks, stationery items and candies with my siblings and friends. I think it is their guidance that I share my things with others.                   

Q. What kinds of things do you like to share?

A. I prefer sharing things that are not much personal such as vehicles, accessories, and notes with my friends and siblings. Sometimes I also like sharing my lunch with my colleagues.

Q. What kinds of things are not suitable for sharing?

I think electronic gadgets which contain personal and sensitive information are not suitable for sharing, such as mobile phones or laptops. Apart from this, things related to personal hygiene are also not appropriate for sharing.

Q. Do neighbours usually share things in your country?

Yes, mostly, neighbours have cordial relations and often share many things like vehicles, household items or food. However, in cities, some neighbours do not have friendly relations, and thus, they do not like to share things.

Money

    Q. When you go shopping, do you prefer to pay for things in cash or by card?

Mostly, I go shopping in my local area. Most of the shops take cash, as they do not have the facility to accept debit or credit cards. I also find it easy to pay in cash.

    Q. Did you ever save money to buy special things?

Yes, I did it many times. Recently, I wanted to buy a new mobile phone, but I did not have enough money to buy it. So I saved my pocket money for some months and bought a new Samsung smartphone.

    Q. Would you ever take a job which had a low pay?

No, I did not. I am a student, and I recently appeared in my senior secondary examination. I never done any job before. But I am ready to do a low-paying job if I learn many things from it.

    Q. Would winning a lot of money make a big difference to your life?

Yes, of course, winning a lot of money will completely change my life. I will start living in a big house. I will buy a car and buy some expensive clothes. I would also like to start my business.

    Q. Do you think earning money is easy?

I do not think that earning money is easy. It is because to earn money, people have to do a lot of hard work. They need to learn skills or attain a high level of education.

Animals

    Q. Are there many animals or birds where you live?

I live in a countryside area. Seeing many animals and birds is common to see for me. I can see cows, dog buffelow, oxen, pigs, cats, sparrows, pigeons, parrots, peacocks and many more. 

    Q. For people living in cities, speak the following answer. 

No, I cannot see too many animals as I can live in a city. I can see only a limited number of animals, such as cats, dogs, crows and pigeons. But, sometimes, when I go outside my city, the variety of animals I can see increases.

    Q. How often do you watch programmes or read articles about wild animals?

I do not read any articles about animals in newspapers or magazines. But I watch the Discovery channel. I especially like to watch programs related to marine animals. I enjoy watching beautiful fish.

    Q. Have you ever been to a zoo or a wildlife park?

Yes, once I went to a zoo in a nearby city. There were many animals and birds in this zoo. I saw some rare bird species. Many wild animals were kept in cages at this place.  

    Q. Would you like to have a job working with animals?

No, I would not like such a job because I am afraid of animals. We cannot judge when they can attack us. So I think working with animals is a risky job.

Future

    Q. What job would you like to have ten years from now?

always dreamt about becoming an engineer. I recently passed my secondary education, and now, I am planning to study abroad. I will study computer engineering subjects and expect to do an engineering job after ten years. 

    Q. How beneficial will English be for your future?

English is an international language, and most multinational companies use this language for internal and external communication. If I gain a good command of this language, I can easily get a job in such a corporation. Also, English will help me develop better relations with people living outside of my nation.

    Q. How much travelling do you hope to do in the future?

I love travelling, and I expect to do much travelling in the future. I never went outside my country, so I plan to tour some foreign countries. If I get a job that has travelling as its part, I will never miss to grab it. 

    Q. How do you think your life will change in the future?

Presently, I am a student. I think, within some years, my studies will be completed, and I will start earning. I may have a car and a house. 

    Q. Do you think the future can be predicted?

It is usually said that the future can be predicted. I heard that people’s habit determine their future. If a person has a habit of doing every work on time, they can predict their success.

Social Media

    Q. Which social media websites do you use? 

I like using social media, so I have an account on almost all social media websites. I use Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Telegram. But I spend most of my time on Instagram.

    Q. How much time do you spend on social media sites? 

I keep checking my social media account throughout the day. But I think I spend 2 to 3 hours exclusively on social media. I am an active user of these platforms.

    Q. What kind of information about yourself have you put on social media? 

I have put some general information about myself on all of my social media profiles. The information about my secondary school, interests, village/town and birth date is available on my social media accounts.

    Q. Is there anything you do not like about social media?

Yes, there is one thing that I dislike the most about social media, which is misinformation. To increase profile visits and followers, many people upload fake news and photos that attract people. Sometimes, this type of content causes problems in the society. 

    Q. Why social media is becoming so popular?

Social media is becoming popular because all famous people and superstars have their profiles on these platforms. People can follow them and check their every movement. Also, companies have started advertising their products on these websites. So, it is becoming popular.

Holidays

    Q. How do you like to spend your holidays?

I spend my holidays with my friends. One day before the holiday, we make plans and visit new places. But if I want to rest, then for the whole day, I sleep or watch television.

    Q. What are some public holidays in your country?

India is a big and diverse country, and several festivals and national days are commemorated on the national level by the government, and these days are public holidays. Diwali, Holi, Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti are some of them.  

    Q. Is there anything you dislike about public holidays?

I hate processions on public holidays. During those days, the roads are blocked, and people face problems while travelling. Also, speakers are loudly blown on such days. 

    Q. Is there anything you particularly like to do on holidays?

On holidays, I especially like to watch movies on the television. Sometimes, I watch two to three films in a day. 

Email

    Q. What kinds of emails do you receive about your work or studies?

I am a studentand I do not get many emails from my school or college. But sometimes the school management sends us important information, assignments and project work via emails.

    Q. Do you prefer to email, phone or text your friends?

If there is any important work, I prefer calling my friends because sometimes they do not read messages or emails immediately. But if nothing is important, then I send them text messages. 

    Q. Do you reply to emails and messages as soon as you receive them? 

Yes, I reply to all emails and messages as soon as I see them. Because most of the time, the sender waits for a reply. So, it is better to respond to messages and emails immediately.

    Q. Are you happy to receive emails that are advertising things?      

No, I find them annoying in my email inbox. Advertisements are everywhere. I think companies should leave this place free from adverts.

Languages

    Q. How many languages can you speak?

I am an Indian and can speak three languages, which are Punjabi, Hindi and English. But I speak Punjabi more in my everyday life.

    Q. How useful will English be to you in the future?

English is an international language and is widely spoken throughout the world. I plan to study and settle in an English-speaking country. So this language will help me in getting a job easily, make friends and communicate with others.

    Q. What do you remember about learning languages at school?

I learnt all three languages from my school. We had separate periods for separate languages. First of all, the teachers taught us the alphabet, then words and sentence formation.

    Q. What do you think would be the hardest language for you to learn?

Generally speaking, learning any language is easy if anyone has an interest and desire. But for me, I think learning some East-Asian languages would be difficult. It is because they have different word structures and minute differences in those words, which would be difficult to remember.

    Q. Do you want to learn any other language? 

Yes, I want to learn the Spanish language as this language has an enormous literature and is also spoken in many countries. It would help me in learning new cultures and traditions.

Swimming

    Q. Did you learn to swim when you were a child?

Yes, I learnt swimming at a very young age. The area where I had been living had a swimming pool. I learnt to swim in this place from a coach.

    Q. How often do you go swimming now?

Now, I am busier than before. I have less time to spend on leisure activities. So I go for swimming only once or twice a month.

    Q. What places are there for swimming where you live?

The place where I live now does not have a swimming pool or lake. I go to a nearby city for swimming. Sometimes, when we all friends gather, we go to a safe river to enjoy swimming.

    Q. Do you think swimming is a good form of exercise?

Yes, swimming is a good exercise. It is a full-body workout. Apart from that, it increases lung capacity and breadth-holding power. People who do swimming every day stay active for the whole day.

Jewellery

    Q. How often do you wear jewellery?

I do not wear expensive jewellery every day because they need extra care and attention. I wear it on special occasions, such as marriages, parties, festivals, and engagements. But usually, I wear artificial ornaments. 

    Q. What type of jewellery do you like best? 

I like to wear gold jewellery because this is a precious metal, and everyone likes wearing ornaments made up of gold. Also, they are available in various designs and prices. 

    Q. When do people like to give jewellery in your country?

In India, jewellery is given as a gift on special days. People can expect to receive jewellery on marriages, birthdays and ring ceremonies. Newborn children receive gold ornaments on their first birthday.     

    Q. Have you ever given jewellery to someone as a gift? 

Yes, I gave it once. It was during the marriage anniversary of my parents. I gifted a gold chain to my mother and a gold ring to my father by saving my pocket money. They were surprised after receiving these gifts from me.

    Q. Have you ever got jewellery as a gift? 

Yes, my father gifted a gold chain to me on my 19th birthday. I wear it at marriages or family functions. 

Newspapers and Magazines

    Q. Which magazines and newspapers do you read?

I read the newspaper every day. I read a South Indian English newspaper. Its name is The Hindu. I love reading this newspaper as it has all the important news articles.  

    Q. What kinds of articles are you most interested in?

I like reading science and sports articles. I have an interest in both fields. This newspaper publishes a separate page for Science and Technology news that I never miss reading. 

    Q. Have you ever read a newspaper or magazine in a foreign language?

Hindi and Punjabi are our native languages, but English is not a native language of India. It was introduced in India by the Britishers. As I said before, I read English-language newspapers daily.

    Q. Do you think reading a newspaper or magazine in a foreign language is a good way to learn the language?

Of course, if someone asks me how they can improve their language skills, I always recommend they should read the newspaper in that language. By reading the newspaper, people can easily learn a language because, from the newspaper, they can learn new vocabulary, sentences, and the correct use of the language.  

    Q. What do you think now more or less number of people read the newspaper?

The trend of reading newspapers has declined too much. The time and attention of people have been grabbed by mobiles and computers. They spend hours scrolling social media and watching YouTube videos but do not read newspapers.
